Ideation Techniques

TTool · Ideation Techniques

By , Editor · · What’s Next

The team can't generate enough good options. Every brainstorm produces the same handful of suggestions. You need different methods, or you need a sharper question — and you're not sure which.

Ideation Techniques are a collection of structured methods for generating creative ideas — from classic brainstorming through SCAMPER (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to other uses, Eliminate, Reverse), morphological analysis, and constraint-based approaches. You pick the technique that fits the challenge: some work better for incremental improvement, others for radical departure.

A four-step structure numbered 1 to 4, labelled pick, run, capture, and filter, with the pick step branching to three techniques (SCAMPER, morphological, random word) and SCAMPER broken out letter by letter.
